The Guardian published an article about the UK family-separation policy, similar to the policy implemented in the USA by the Trump administration. While the USA policy has drawn attention all over the world, and resulted in outrage and protests, similarly devastating approach implemented in the UK has gone under the radar, largely overlooked. Until now, cases of unlawful detention and family separation used to be settled quietly, outside the courts. Recently, however, parents in ongoing cases started to speak up, exposing the way system is set up and challenges they face in this process. As the Guardian reports, hundreds of children are separated from their parents who is detained in the UK immigration center every year, and this number is only getting higher. In addition, the Home office in UK does not keep a record on how many times one child has been separated from partners.
