Children as young as seven 'sexually assaulted' in Greek refugee camps

The Independent/ Siobhan Fenton

The Independent reports on the level and extent of sexual violence experienced by many children living in official European refugee camps. Regrettably, sexual assault is common place in many camps and children as young as 7 have been victims of sexual exploitation. Greater protection is urgently required for women and children in these camps and the European community is called on to provide such protection to the most vulnerable groups. At the same time, anybody can fall victim to such exploitation and abuse and reports are now emerging that men are also being forced into prostitution as a result of deep poverty and other forms of destitution.
