It is much harder for young adults who grew up in social care to start an independent life than those  who grew up supported by their family. Children raised in social care not only have lower levels of education, but they are more vulnerable and unstable.

With an EU tender in 2016, the SOS Children's Villages were able to organise different programmes to help young adults start an independent life.

The programs included:

  • Training in money management
  • Orientation about career opportunities
  • Addiction prevention
  • Sexual education
  • Preparing for family life

According to the technical director of SOS, Léna Szilvási, it is important to show young adults about to set out on their own how to make career choices and establish relationships to help them succed.
