On Friday, April 20th, 2018, a conference titled "Starting the process of drafting the Strategy for Social Protection in the Republic of Serbia" was held in Belgrade. The conference was held with the aim of presenting the beginning of the process of drafting the Strategy for Social Protection in the Republic of Serbia for the period 2019-2025. In the opening address, the meeting was addressed by Nenad Neric, State Secretary at the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs, Nikola Bizel, Head of Sector I of Operations - Justice, Internal Affairs and Social Inclusion in the EU Delegation to the Republic of Serbia, Michel Sen-Lo, UNICEF Representative in Serbia, Djordje Stanicic, Secretary General of the Standing Conference of Cities and Municipalities, and Sasa Stefanovic, Director of the Network of organizations for children in Serbia.
"I am pleased that today, everyone gathered here, we are ready to start together the creation of a new stage in the development of the social protection system in our country. This process also implies harmonization of the national normative framework with the international and European documents and laws arising from them. In these frameworks, a modern, efficient and flexible social protection system should be developed, which will be ready to provide an adequate and timely response to the needs of citizens. Today we are not starting from the beginning - we have the results on which we can rely and work to ensure sustainability and constantly monitor and improve the level of development, as well as quality"said State Secretary Neric.
The main goals and priorities in the field of social protection system in the Republic of Serbia were presented, and on this, as well as the challenges, the Director of the Republic Institute for Social Protection, the representative of Unicef and a representative of the Center for Social Policy, as well as various social protection service providers, spoke. Also, the European Union's assistance in the creation of the Strategy was presented as well as the grants awarded for the implementation of 30 projects at the local level in the field of education and provision of social services worth 5,5 million euros.
The conference was attended by representatives of the relevant ministry, representatives of relevant state institutions, international organizations and civil society organizations dealing with the provision of social protection services and improvement of the social protection sector in the Republic of Serbia.
The process of preparation of the Strategy for Social Protection is coordinated by the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs, with the financial support of the European Union and technical support of the NIRAS Consortium.
