January to September 2019

From the introduction of the document:

More than a quarter of the refugee and migrants who arrived in Europe via the Mediterranean routes so far this year were children. Many of them arrived withouth parents. Some were accompanied by other relatives while others were traveling without any adults they knew. The arrival of children in such numbers is not a new trend yet children face major difficulties in getting the protection and help they need once they arrived in Europe. This report highlights some of these difficulties and makes recommendations to address them. It also provides a short update of key development in the movement of refugees and migrant to Europe since the start of the year.

While there have been many positive steps accross Europe towards improving, the report notes that more need to be done to address some of the challenges children continue to face. According to this report, states will be able to increase the protection given to children on the move and to determine their best interest.
