This UNESCO volume comprises seventeen case studies illustrating a wide range of programmes that address the issue of climate change within the broad approach of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). As climate change education is largely considered a significant element of ESD, the document introduces a series of local and national good practices and shared knowledge that are relevant to the global community and were implemented during the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD, 2005-2014). Moreover, the programmes encompass areas ranging from corporate and political contributions to formal and informal education practices, youth empowerment and food security.

The managing organization and partnering stakeholders are from various countries, including among others Japan, Thailand, France, Sweden, Germany and Uruguay. Each case study covers a comprehensive analysis of the success factors for each programme, the constraints encountered during the development and implementation stages, and also the necessary conditions for their successful replication. The document promotes good practices that could be of great use to international stakeholders that strive to carry out projects in the education for sustainable development field.
