Learnings from Subsidized Micro-Lending Project for Promoting Child Care and Protection in Marginalized Communities

Date of publication:  05 Feb 2015 Authors:  Anila Vendresha & Iva Sinani Publisher:  Terre des hommes Albania

This Report looks at the third program implemented by Terre des hommes (Tdh), in collaboration with Common Actions Against Poverty (CAAP)  to encourage ‘Income Generating Activities’ and offer an economic alternative to Roma and Egyptian families living in Albania. The programme offered Subsidized Microloans to selected families to support their development of small businesses. 234 microloans were made from 2006 to 2012, while the report focuses only on the period 2009-2012. In this period, a largely positive result was achieved, making income generating interventions such as subsidized microloans for self-entrepreneurship a noteworthy additional intervention to support Child Protection strategies for the future.
