This one page document provides a numerical overview of the current situation for migrant and refugee children in Greece.

  • There are about 18,500 refugee and migrant children across Greece, out of which 2,350 are unaccompanied children.
  • Ever since November 2016,  7,427 children have been relocated from Greece, out of which 282 were unaccompanied children.
  • Ever since March 2016, 72 accompanied children have been returned to Turkey under the EU-Turkey agreement.
  • Out of the children staying in accommodation sites, 2,500 children have attended formal education afternoon reception classes.

The document also plots the change in the number of refugee and migrant children that have arrived to Greece by sea in the past year, the number of asylum applications since January 2017 and the percentage of children per type of location where they stay. Moreover, it outlines the number of unaccompanied children who have been relocated and breaks this down according to country of relocation.
