The purpose of this study was to exam barriers to father involvement, including institutional obstacles and gender bias (as the majority of child welfare workers are female). To obtain the perspective of fathers, researchers collected quantitative and qualitative data from men in a mandated parenting class in the Bay Area. All of the participants were men of color. Responses indicated that the majority did not feel they were treated the same as the mother of their children
