The Lighthouse is a service for children and young people in North London who have experienced any form of child sexual abuse, including exploitation. At The Lighthouse we put the child at the centre, to make sure they have a safe place to recover at their own pace and rebuild their lives. Medical, advocacy, social care, police, and therapeutic support are delivered in one location, providing a coordinated approach to supporting children and young people. We want children, young people and their families to receive the justice, support and therapy they need, in a timely manner, to move forward in their recovery from abuse.

About the presenter:
Emma Harewood trained as a paediatric dietitian before moving into system leadership and change management. For the past 10 years she has held various director-level roles in health providers and clinical commissioning groups, leading change in health and social care with a focus on integrated services to support children and adults. She is passionate about hearing the voice of the child as new services are developed that actually meet their needs, most recently as the Lighthouse Delivery Manager in London.
In 2014, NHSE (London) and the Mayor’s Office commissioned Emma and experts from the Havens (sexual assault referral centre) to review the pathway for child sexual assault in London. This review recommended that London pilot the Barnahus (Child House) model, a model now supported by the Children’s Commissioner for England, Home Secretary and London Mayor. Emma spent four years implementing a children’s SARC, CSA hubs and working towards the Child House model in London. Since September 2018, Emma has led the delivery of the Lighthouse, the first UK ‘Child House’ pilot providing support to children and young people that experience child sexual abuse. The Lighthouse (Child House) is led by University College London Hospitals, in partnership with NSPCC and Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust, and will be piloted for three years.
