The webinar aims to enhance understanding of the relationship between children’s rights and the environment and provides an overview of the latest developments in an emerging field of international children’s rights. It will also explore opportunities of how to apply children’s rights both in environmental policy and practice. For example, children’s rights can be used to inform environmental impact assessments and other instruments of environmental governance, environmental education, urban planning processes, environmental health regulation etc.
The webinar will also look at the outcomes of the Committee on the Rights of the Child’s 2016 Day of General Discussion on children’s rights and the environment and the 2017 expert meeting of the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights and the environment on the same topic, a process that will result in a report to be submitted to the Human Rights Council in 2018.
The webinar may be of particular interest to professionals from the human rights, environmental or other related communities who would like to learn more about a child rights approach to environmental protection.
