[United Kingdom] Report Warns that SEND Reforms are Failing Families

A  report from the Education Select Committee in the UK warned that the government is failing children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

In 2014, a new reform aimed to improve the situation of these children and their families, but it has failed due to poor implementation. Based on 70 interviews and analysis of 700 written pieces of evidence, the main gaps are excessive bureaucracy, a complex and confusing system, and an ongoing lack of adequate resources.

Nicola Gibson, inclusion manager at the Early Years Alliance, said, 'Parents of children with SEND need better cross-agency working, more funding directed at early intervention and better, earlier support'.
