Active since 2004, the Centre for Youth Integration (CIM) is an independent Belgrade-based non-profit organization that provides specialized services and personal support to children in street situation and children at risk of becoming street-involved, and their families.

In its overall work with children in street situations, CIM tries to use 2 main strategies:  outreach work and the principle of integration.

Outreach work of all services and programs implies that CIM is there where the children are - in informal settlements where their beneficiaries and the families live, in preschool institutions and schools as assistants and support, in centers for social work, health centers. Children are also supported and connected with potential employers through a specialized employment program.

CIM are present in asylum centers and actively work with unaccompanied and refugee children.

They treat all children with care and their families with respect, no matter their situation. They take pride in knowing the children and families they support, and in understanding their circumstances and needs from their perspective. Building long-lasting trust and cooperation is the foundation of their work.

The principle of integration implies that they try to include the children they work with and provide them with as many life experiences and activities as possible, like those their peers from the majority population have. Achieving social integration for children in street situation is almost always a challenging and gradual process of learning new behaviors, in which children need consistent and persistent long-term support.

In this sense, for children CIM works organize visits to museums, cinema, zoo, sports activities, as well as the opportunity to travel and meet peers from other countries. So far, visits have been made to France, Portugal, Spain, Hungary and Malta.

Coming soon

This summer in Belgrade, in preparation for the Olympic Games, CIM will organize a mini-Olympics not only for their beneficiaries but also for children from France, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
